Wertz & Company, LLP has immediate openings in their Irvine Office and is looking for ideal candidates for the following positions:

  • Tax Senior Accountant

    This Tax Senior Accountant is responsible for performing tax preparation, tax research, and planning with minimal supervision. This position will also work with clients to resolve minor tax matters and may be assigned tax in-charge responsibilities.

    The right candidate will be willing and able to:

    • Prepare complex tax returns and perform tax research
    • Respond to tax notices from taxing authorities
    • Review tax information supplied by the client and will meet with and/or contact client regarding general or complex tax questions
    • Recognize, anticipate, and resolve tax issues and make recommendations
    • Adapt to the company’s practices, policies, and culture

    What You’ll Need:

    • 3-5 years of prior experience
    • CPA certified or CPA candidacy required
    • Strong organization, problem-solving and analytical skills
    • Diligent work ethic and dedicated to providing superior client service
    • Possess integrity, be trustworthy, dependable, and a team player with a cooperative attitude
    • Excellent communication skills – oral, written, and interpersonal with the ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner to upper level team members and clients
    • Strong client engagement skills
    • Must be proficient in corporate, partnership, and individual tax planning and compliance
    • Ability to prepare interim and annual financial statements, including adjusting journal entries
    • Experience in managing multiple client engagements at the same time
    • Prior basic supervisory experience is preferred
    • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and QuickBooks is required
    • Lacerte or Prosystems accounting software is preferred but not required
    • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future

  • Tax Manager

    The Tax Manager is responsible for managing compliance and consulting engagements, including staffing, delivery of high quality work product, client communication and billing.

    The right candidate will be willing and able to:

    • Prepare complex tax returns and perform tax research
    • Recognize areas of potential technical issues
    • Work with other client service team members to manage their timely resolution
    • Identify potential high risk engagement issues
    • Serve as technical resource for staff and promote their understanding of technical issues
    • Develop suggestions for resolving technical issues
    • Develop and understanding of the general economic, business, and regulatory factors effecting the client

    What you’ll need:

    • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Master of Tax preferred
    • Active CPA license
    • Minimum 7+ years of public accounting experience
    • CPA Required
    • Proficient in corporate, individual and partnership taxation and planning
    • Previous experience supervising and training staff and seniors preferred
    • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
    • Must be highly motivated and experience in managing multiple client engagements
    • Ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize accordingly
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and QuickBooks: Lacerte or ProSystem accounting software

  • Audit Associate

    This position is expected to demonstrate competence, skills, and judgment in accounting principles and auditing procedures on financial statements audit engagements.

    The right candidate will be willing and able to:

    • Perform engagements involving audit, review and compilation of client financial statements
    • Be familiar with current accounting principles and auditing techniques
    • Assist in preparing risk assessments and audit plans for clients
    • Prepare clear, transparent work papers that follow standards and include well thought-out judgments and well-define conclusions
    • Evaluate and recommend improvements to client business process and controls
    • Conduct detailed research on audit issues and analyze the results of audit work

    What you’ll need:

    • Licensed as a CPA or in the process of becoming licensed
    • 2-3 years of experience performing audits, reviews, and compilations with clients in various industries
    • Working knowledge and experience with ProSystem FX Engagement, Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Strong problem solving, analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
    • Commitment to learning and a desire to determine the right way to do something
    • Professionalism, dependability, integrity and trustworthiness combined with a cooperative attitude
    • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines
